HarrisView up one level
  Issue 8 Fall 2006

Dear alumni and friends,

Now in our eighth issue, we are happy to share the newly redesigned HarrisView. We hope you like the new look, but more importantly we hope you enjoy the content.

This issue features the research of two new faculty members. Joining us from Harvard University’s government department, William Howell researches the separation of powers in American politics. “Power Plays” describes his forthcoming book entitled While Dangers Gather: Congressional Checks on Presidential War Powers.

Kerwin Charles joins the Harris School after having been on the faculty of the Ford School of Public Policy and the economics department at the University of Michigan. Charles spent the 2005-06 academic year as the Emmett Dedmon Visiting Professor at the Harris School. His research focus is primarily in labor economics, and “The Economics of Marriage” covers his recent paper on the relationship between socioeconomic status and marital paring, “The Nature and Consequences of Marital Sorting by Parental Wealth.”

Our featured alumni for this issue are Alisa Miller, MPPMBA’ 99, CEO of Public Radio International, and Alejandra Meraz Velasco, MPP’00, co-founder of the Brazilian Investing in Education Foundation. Both demonstrate the important impact of Harris School graduates.

As always, we have included news, notes, and announcements about life at the Harris School, students, staff, faculty, and alumni.

We welcome your feedback and hope to see you throughout the year.
