Corrections In “Mothers in Prison,” in
the last issue of HarrisView,
we incorrectly reported that children born to mothers in
Cook County jail are taken into custody by the Illinois Department
of Children and Family Services. In fact, while some of these
children may become wards of the state, others may be in
the care of extended family members. Research currently underway
hopes to shed light on the immediate childcare arrangements
and long-term outcomes for these children.
