Charles Wheelan Named to Emerging Leader Program
Charles Wheelan, senior lecturer at the Harris School, has been named to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs' new Emerging Leaders Program. The eighteen people selected to this year's class are local leaders in the fields of business, nonprofit, and government, as well as academia and medicine.
As part of the two-year program, participants meet during the first year to examine pressing issues such as energy, foreign policy, and the global economy. During the second year, they collaborate with the Chicago Council staff to produce a report on the on the global challenges facing Chicago and the Midwest.
Wheelan has served as the Midwest correspondent for The Economist, an economics and finance correspondent for WBEZ Chicago Public Radio, an adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and most recently as director of policy and communications for Chicago Metropolis 2020. He is a visiting assistant professor at Dartmouth College during the summer quarter and the author of Naked Economics: Undressing the Dismal Science (2002). Wheelan received an MPA from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School and a PhD in public policy from the Harris School.
