Board Member Honored by Indian Government
Ylias Akbaraly, a member of the Harris School's Dean's International Council and chairman of Groupe Sipromad, was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Samman in January. Presented by Indian President Prathiba Patil, the award recognizes exceptional work of those of Indian heritage living and working outside India.
The award ceremony concluded an annual three-day convention, sponsored by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, celebrating non-resident Indians and people of Indian origin around the world.
Groupe Sipromad is one of the leading business houses in Madagascar, with operations in the industrial, commerce and distribution, pharmaceutical, agricultural and TIC sectors. Akbaraly studied at the EDEP School of Management in Paris and at the University of Berkeley. He holds a master's degree in management and marketing.
