Description of Live/Silent Auction:
The live auction takes place during and after dinner (starting at 7:30pm) and will no doubt be
the most fun aspect of the evening! In several different rounds, you will have the opportunity to bid on our most exciting and
desirable items under the direction of The Harris School's very own auctioneer Professor Don Coursey. Professor
Coursey will be utilizing two different auction types:
- In the English Auction, participants bid openly against one another, with each bid being higher than the previous bid. The auction ends when no participant is willing to bid further; at this point, the highest bidder pays the price.
- In the Dutch Auction, the auctioneer begins with a high asking price which is lowered until some participant is willing to accept the auctioneer's price, or a predetermined minimum price is reached. That participant pays the last announced price.
The silent auction will also offer a chance to bid on dozens of exciting items. It begins during the cocktail hour and will close at a pre-announced time (prior to the last round of the live auction). In the silent auction, participants submit bids near the item of their choice and continue to out-bid each other until the bidding period is brought to a close. At the end of the silent auction, the highest bidder pays the price they submitted. (Bidders may bid more than once.)
