Biography
Anjali's research interests in health economics include sexually transmitted infections, risky behavior, contraceptive use, and global public health. Her dissertation is titled “Plan B as Insurance: The effect of making Plan B over-the-counter on STIs and Pregnancy Termination.” In this work, she explores consequences of improved access to emergency contraception, finding it leads to an increase in STIs and decrease in abortions among women ages 15-44 in the United States.
She has conducted fieldwork and overseen data collection for a longitudinal household survey designed to study the impact of access to anti-retroviral treatment for HIV/AIDS on health and labor market outcomes in Mozambique and Ghana. Some of her current work includes calibrating a theoretical model of how a targeted public health intervention impacts the incidence rate of type 2 diabetes. Anjali is also involved with a longitudinal study examining the cost-effectiveness of IUD versus Depo-Provera use among low-income adolescents.
Anjali is an NIH/AHRQ National Research Service Award Pre-doctoral Fellow and holds the Merck Quantitative Sciences Graduate Fellowship in Health Economics. She is also a recipient of the University of Chicago Program for Pharmaceutical Policy (UCP3) Pre-doctoral Award.
