For twelve years, the Chicago Policy Review has been dedicated to publishing top scholarship in the field of public policy analysis. Initially a forum for renowned scholars and policy experts such as Nobel Laureate James Heckman, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and current presidential candidate Senator John McCain, the journal has exclusively published the work of students and alumni of the Harris School of Public Policy Studies at the University of Chicago since 2006.
The CPR has become a crucial venue for Harris students' research, and serves as an unparalleled opportunity for them to bolster resumes and academic careers with published work. But it is the students' rigorous training in economics and statistics and their ability to perform high-caliber analysis has made the CPR a top publication in academic policy work. Articles from volume 12 (summer 2008) of the CPR included a cost-benefit analysis of emissions trading markets, exploration of the correlation between women's wages and human capital, and policy recommendations for the United States' future relationship with Jordan. These and other in-depth articles provide indispensable insight to current policy issues.
The incoming staff of the CPR is devoted to continuing the journal as a premiere publication in academic analysis of public policy. To do this, advertising opportunities have been introduced to offset costs for design and printing. The revenue streams generated will enable the journal to operate more independently of administrative budget constraints; to increase in scope despite shrinking allowances and increasing costs. Advertisements will be read by hundreds of subscribers interested in continuing education, topical conferences and job opportunities. The current audience of libraries, research institutions, policy professionals and the University of Chicago community will be expanded by contacting over 1,500 former subscribers and Harris alumni -- many of whom work at the highest levels of policy making and analysis.
Our goal is to make the valuable work of the Harris School as widely accessible as possible, and in doing so, build close relationships with the readers and advertisers who have an interest in having access to excellent, thoughtful research. Beginning this year with Volume 13, to be issued in summer 2009, the Chicago Policy Review will be accepting advertisements from university affiliates, non-profits, government agencies, and other public policy organizations. These advertising dollars will ensure the continued annual publication of the CPR, as well as its status as a highly-regarded forum for student publication.
