Lead in a dynamic field that affects industry and individuals from the community to the global scale.

Health policy can have monumental impact on societies around the world. Policymaking in this field must weigh factors ranging from child welfare to employment law, the national economy to breakthroughs in medicine and care.

Offered through the Center for Health Policy, the Certificate in Health Policy sharpens expertise for careers in private health care and consulting firms and across local, state, and federal government agencies.

"I decided I wanted to get an MPP, specifically from from Harris, where I could gain quantitative tools that would help me determine the types of health initiatives and policies that would be most effective in decreasing Chicago’s health inequities. This, to me, was the ideal way to have a broader impact on improving the health of communities in urban settings."

Emily Perish (MPP16), Administrative Fellow at the University of Chicago Hospitals where she is continuing her research with Harris Professor David Meltzer.

Consider a Policy Lab As Well

Harris Policy Labs can be an excellent complement to certificates. Certificate programs allow students to specialize in particular areas of inquiry, while Policy Labs allow students to apply their knowledge to real world policy challenges for actual client organizations.

Descriptions of Policy Labs projects for the current academic year are available in the Current Student portal. Please consult with Policy Labs staff, or the certificate program director, to see which one is right for you.
