Annual Lecture on Science, Technology & Society

Each year, an invited speaker will present research that deepens our understanding of the risks and improvements to human existence brought about by human inventiveness.

On October 26, 2007, invited speaker James R. Flynn, Professor Emeritus of Political Studies and Psychology at the University of Otago, New Zealand gave a lecture on the four paradoxes that have plagued the theory of intelligence. Flynn is credited with documenting massive IQ gains from one generation to another, or the so-called Flynn Effect. This lecture was based on his current book, What Is Intelligence?

The speaker for the 2008-9 Annual Lecture on Science, Technology & Society will be Rob Fairlie, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, University of California, Santa Cruz. Professor Fairlie will give a lecture on the digital divide.
