Frank Kruesi
|
Frank Kruesi is the Former President of the Chicago Transit Authority and a visiting faculty
member at the Harris School.
|
Frank Kruesi recently retired as president of the Chicago Transit Authority. He has taught at the Harris School since 2000.
Mr. Kruesi's three decades of public service encompassed every level of government - local, county, state, and federal. During nearly a decade as president of the nation's second largest transit system beginning in 1997, Mr. Kruesi expanded bus and rail routes and service levels, undertook major capital and technological improvements and reversed transit ridership drops of the preceding years. He worked in close concert with other regional transit leaders to shape a common vision for the future of the area's transportation network, which formed the basis for a state funding infusion.
Prior to the CTA, Mr. Kruesi was assistant secretary of transportation policy, advising two U.S. secretaries of transportation on all modes of transportation - aviation, rail, transit, highway, bicycle, pedestrian, and maritime. He also served as Chicago's chief policy officer, developing initiatives encompassing much of the range of local governmental responsibilities; executive officer of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office; and, before that, as legislative aide to Illinois State Senator Richard M. Daley, where he focused on mental disabilities, human services, and juvenile justice initiatives.
Mr. Kruesi received a B.A. from Middlebury College and an M.A. from the University of Chicago.
