EPIC Hosts Alumni Panel

The student group, Education Policy Interest Coalition (EPIC), hosted a panel of alumni, who spoke to students about their career experiences. Each alum discussed their current jobs and then answered student questions about which Harris School classes were most helpful in their careers and how to market an MPP degree in a competitive job market.

The following alumni sat on the panel:

Phylicia Lyons, MPP'06, founder, president and CEO of School Choice Illinois, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to educate the public about the need to expand educational options through public policy initiatives and to demonstrate its impact on children, the community, schools, and the state. She was recently honored with the Community Renewal Society's "35 Under 35 Leadership Award."

Elizabeth Swanson, MPP'02, executive director of The Pritzker Traubert Family Foundation (PTFF). PTFF supports efforts to improve public education in the City of Chicago and to ensure that children attending kindergarten through twelfth grades have access to good quality public education.

Veenu Verma, MPP'05, director of the human resources service center for Chicago Public Schools. Previously, she served the district as a project manager and then as the manager for human resources employee services.

Lauren Sartain, MPP'09, research analyst at the Consortium on Chicago School Research. She is currently is studying teacher evaluation in Chicago Public Schools.

Kelly Dwyer, MPP'08, special projects manager to the President at the Ounce of Prevention Fund. She currently does research and advocacy work to support school readiness through early childhood education at the Ounce.
