PPSA Holds Mini-Auction to Kick-Off Ticket Sales
On Wednesday, March 4, the Public Policy Student Association (PPSA) held a mini-auction to launch ticket sales for the much larger 10th Annual Public Service Auction, which will occur on April 4, 2009.
Meg Currie, the auction chair, said the mini-auction raised about $800 and will help offset the costs of the April event. The items auctioned on Wednesday included goods donated from the community and services from students and faculty, including private TA sessions and a designated driver for a night.
Maggie DeCarlo, auctioneer for the evening, said, "We cannot emphasize [enough] how big this event has become for the Harris community." Since the auction was named for Amy Bosman, a Harris student who passed away in 2003, it has moved from the Harris school building to the Harold Washington Library downtown and raised considerably more money. The auction committee hopes to raise over $15,000 this year, which will be given as scholarships to students who take unpaid internships over the summer.
The public service auction will be held from 5:30 to 11:30 pm on Saturday, April 4. Auction tickets are $60 for students and $65 for non-students until March 19; the prices will then rise to $65 and $70, respectively. Tickets will be sold through the end of the quarter outside the lecture hall between 10:30 and 3:00pm daily.
