March 19, 2009Mike Quigley Wins House Democratic Primary
Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley, AM'85 won the Democratic nomination in the Illinois 5th District primary on March 3. The special election was held to fill the vacant U.S. House of Representatives seat left by Rahm Emanuel, who became White House chief of staff in January.
Quigley beat of out a field of 12 Democratic candidates, including Harris School Senior Lecturer and fellow alumnus Charles Wheelan, PhD'98, with approximately 22 percent of the vote. Favored to win in the heavily Democratic district, Quigley will face off against Republican and Green Party candidates in the special April 7 general election.
