Environmental Law and Policy in the Midwest

Barry Matchett of the Environmental, Law and Policy Center (ELPC) in Chicago discussed their current projects, including farm energy, renewable energy solutions, energy efficiency and Midwest high-speed rail.

Second-Year Internship Panel Discussion

A panel of five second-year Harris students discussed their summer environmental-oriented internships. The students discussed the timeline of their internship application process, upcoming prospects for future internships and held a Q & A session.

The Future of Energy Discussion

Travis Bradford, Adjunct Professor of Management at the Booth School of Business, and author of Solar Revolution discussed his classes, work and thoughts on the future of energy use, and renewable energy, focusing on solar, and the opportunities that currently exist in the field.

Discussion of the Future of Illinois Water

Josh Ellis of the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) discussed his work with transit-oriented development, energy efficiency, water supply, and storm water. He discussed the current situation in Chicago regarding water supply and storm water runoff.

How to Plan for the Future of Water Discussion

Jeff Edstorm, a Senior Water Resources Project Manager at Environmental Consulting and Technology (ECT) talked about his current work in water management, Illinois water supply and water resource policy and planning.

Springfield Lobbying Field Trip

Through the courtesy of the Environmental Law and Policy Center, CEPA members were given access to state legislature and were able to observe the lobbying process at work during a day-long field trip to Springfield, IL.

Energy Primer at ELPC Field Trip

Barry Matchett of the Environmental Law and Policy Center invited CEPA members into their offices and held a primer on the Electrical Energy market as it exists today in the US, discussing the currently deregulated market, the issues associated with each of the branches generation, distribution and consumption, and some of the core problems inherent to the current system.

With the generous support of the Career Development Office, Walter Kovalick Jr., Acting Deputy Regional Administrator of the U.S. EPA – Region 5/Chicago discussed the current work and potential opportunities at this agency, which includes the Midwest and Great Lakes region.

Harris School graduate Katie McClain, the Director of the Clinton Climate Initiative discussed what the Clinton Climate Initiative does both locally and globally.

Natural Resources Defense Council Midwest Program

Henry Henderson, Director of the Midwest Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) led a discussion about the current programs in focus at NRDC's Midwest Office.
