The Hyde Park Community
The Harris School is located near Lake Michigan
in the Hyde Park Neighborhood of Chicago. Just seven miles from downtown,
Hyde Park is home to many of the University's students and faculty. The
community boasts excellent bookstores and a variety of restaurants, as
well as several celebrated architectural landmarks, museums, and parks.
The City of Chicago
The city
of Chicago offers and abundance of possiblities to enhance a University
of Chicago experience. As the birthplace of community organizing, a center
of international finance and trade, and architectural hub, the home of
the bludes and a world-renowned arts community, with a spectacular waterfront,
rich selection of restaurants and vibrant neighborhoods, Chicago is an
education in it own right. Cultural and recreational activities downtown
and throughout the city are easily accessible from campus by car or public
transportation.
A vibrant city for policy issues and political life, Chicago is also home to numberous national and international foundations, policy research centers, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and businesses. In the Loop, the heart of downtown, key decisions are made affecting the welfare and economic health of people worldwide. A wealth of opportunities exist for students to interact with policy professionals who affect change on a daily basis-from heads of state to officals, from community activists to national political figures, from bankers and consultants to educators. The city is a dynamic training ground and a gateway to any policy arena.
