The National Opinion Research Center (NORC) announced today that Betty G. Farrell will become director of the Cultural Policy Center at the University of Chicago (CPC). The CPC is a joint initiative of the Harris School of Public Policy Studies and NORC. The CPC, located on the University of Chicago campus, is a nationally recognized interdisciplinary research center dedicated to informing policies that affect the arts, humanities, and cultural heritage. Farrell will begin work at the CPC in July. more >>

On March 16, Chicago City Council Alderman Toni Preckwinkle will speak to students as part of a course on political feasibility taught by Ron Gibbs, a lecturer at the Harris School. She will speaking on a variety of issues to include the Chicago bid for the 2016 Olympics, affordable housing, living wage ordinances, charter schools, health care, criminal justice, and the impact of the economic stimulus package on Chicago. more >>

William Howell and Jon Pevehouse, associate professors in the Harris School, have been honored with the D.B. Hardeman Prize for their book, While Dangers Gather: Congressional Checks on Presidential War Powers (Princeton University Press, 2007). Awarded by the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation, the prize is given to the author of the "most important book on a congressional topic." more >>
